NVL Review (10th and 11th January) - Leeds gain revenge for Shield exit against Liberators

NVL Review (10th and 11th January) - Leeds gain revenge for Shield exit against Liberators

Just four matches were played across the weekend to get the NVL underway in 2026 following the Christmas break, as National Cup and Shield matches dominated the fixture list.

On Saturday, Manchester Liberators suffered a setback in their Women’s Division 2 North promotion bid as they were beaten in four sets by Leeds Gorse 2.

The Mancunians had beaten the same opponents in the early stages of the National Shield and won the first set, but this time eventually went down 25-27, 26-24, 25-14, 30-28 in an extremely tight match, leaving them seven points behind league leaders Manchester Moos Side Jaguars.

Sunday’s action saw London Inter Crocs pull themselves clear of Wessex and away from the bottom end of the Women’s Division 1 South table with a 3-0 victory over the South Coast club.

Their 25-20, 25-20, 27-25 success carries them to a 3-3 record, with games in hand on most of those above them.

Birmingham City missed the chance to regain leadership of Men’s Division 3 Central as they were beaten in a five-set thriller at Chelmsford

The single point they took from the narrow 25-16, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-13 defeat takes them level on points with table-toppers Telford, but with an inferior set quotient and having played a game more.

Black Country 2

It was a busy day for Chelmsford, who were also in action against Black Country 2, where the third-placed West Midlands side prevailed in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) to keep their outside hopes of promotion alive.
