Flooring maintenance and refurbishment
If you're looking to improve the quality of the flooring at your club's facility, then Volleyball England partner and headline sponsor of the Men's Super League, DYNAMIK Flooring, have got it covered.
Whether it's to install a completely new floor to replace and ageing surface, or to better maintain an exisiting one by protecting against wear and tear, they can come up with a bespoke solution to suit your clubs' needs.
DYNAMIK have, below, provided some top tips to help you look after your facility's current flooring - and if you need extra assistance, they have a number of solutions.
10 top tips for protecting your playing surface
1) Hall temperature
The temperature in the hall where you play should not rise above 26℃ and should not drop below 12℃ at all times. If underfloor heating is installed and there is a heating breakdown its is recommended to bring the temperature back up gradually and by no more than 10℃ over a 24 hour period.
2) Humidity levels
The relative humidity (RH) levels should not exceed 65%, and should not drop below 35% at any time. Outside of this range, there may be excessive movement of the floor and resulting damage.
3) Using equipment
Take care when moving heavy apparatus with wheels, including net posts and bleacher seating - the wheels should be free running and preferably rubber. Take care not to drag heavy objects, as these may scratch or indent the floor.
4) High level works
If tower scaffolding or scissor lifts are to be used for maintenance, you should have a minimum of 12mm plywood under each scaffold wheel and outrigger to distribute the load.
5) Avoid outside dust and debris
It is recommended that access to your playing space from an outside entrance is avoided. This reduces the risk of dirt and debris being carried into the sports hall, which may cause the floor to become slippery and lead to premature wearing of the surface finish.
6) Footwear
It is recommended that black soled shoes should not be worn to avoid scuff marks on floors.
7) Consider floor protection
In order to protect your sports floor and help prolong its life, a surface protection should be considered when the hall is used for other event where tables, chairs and equipment is used.
8) Guard against a slippery floor
Follow manufacturer recommendations when it comes to selecting cleaning products to prevent the surface from becoming slippery, which can increase health and safety risks.
9) Game lines
The life expectancy of the game lines depend on use and maintenance of the floor, but painted lines generally require attention every five to seven years. Adhesive tape, sometimes used for additional or temporary line marking, is not recommended since this can damage the floor surface.
10 Remove spills
If you discover stains made by tea, coffee, squash etc., clean with a cloth dampened in warm water. Heavier contamination such as body fats, dirt and grease should be removed using a ‘low foam’ mild detergent, and then wiped with a clean damp cloth.

Solutions to meet your needs
DYNAMIK offer protection, maintenance and aftercare services which help to preserve your club's floor or surface throughout its life cycle.
Every floor requires regular maintenance and aftercare, not only to preserve aesthetics, but also it’s performance characteristics and the main options to help with this are detailed below.
Scrub and re-seal
This process includes a chemical clean to remove contaminants that can build up over time, causing the floor to become slippery. The surface is mechanically scrub etched to create a key in preparation for new lacquer seals to be applied.
Sand and re-seal
This process allows the wooden floor to be taken back to the bare timber surface, removing any old lacquers or painted lines. The floor is left with a smooth finish ready for the new applications of seal and line markings.
Bona Resilent
This DYNAMIK process allows for the refurbishment of an existing sports floor, while reinstating the required slip resistance. It is available in a range of colours and the system allows for the individualisation of a sports floor and the updating of line marking.
Polyurethane (PU)
Speficially for a Polyurethane sports floor, two options are available dependent upon the condition of the existing surface. These options also allow for the updating of line marking and logos and also provides the opportunity to totally individualise the flooring, as well as reinstate the required slip resistance.
Line marking
This process is a vital component of a sports hall floor and line markings can be installed to a new surface or re-applied to existing surfaces to freshen up faded or worn lines.
Floor protection
To maintain a sports floor's playing characteristics and prolong its life, a surface protection should be considered with giant carpet tiles or vinyl protection two options to use for non-sporting activities.
Replacement
There will come a point in time when a sports floor will have reached the end of its useful life and a full replacement will be required. In this case, a new floor can be laid over the exisiting one, existing floor surface thus reducing installation time and cost. You will also have a floor that meets the latest EN 14904 regulations and is Sport England and Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) compliant.
