Club Profile - Salisbury Volleyball Club (SVC)
John Postance, the chairman of Salisbury Spitfires,answers questions about the formation of the club, its most memorable achievements and advice for anyone interested in starting out sitting volleyball.
How did your sitting volleyball club start?
With a vision to bring sitting volleyball to our community, we applied for a Volleyball England grant to kickstart our journey. When our application was successful, it set everything in motion, and Salisbury Volleyball Club (SVC) was officially founded.
What is your most memorable achievement as a club?
One of our most memorable achievements as a club came just after our establishment in 2021.
In our debut season, we not only competed in Tier 2 but went on to win it, earning us promotion to Tier 1, marking a significant milestone in our club’s early history and setting the stage for even greater accomplishments ahead.
What is your ambition for the club?
The club’s ambition is to compete at the highest level of volleyball. At the same time, we want to foster the growth of the sport by developing and training junior players and beginners, ensuring a strong foundation for the future of volleyball in our community.
Why should people try sitting volleyball?
People should try sitting volleyball as it's a great opportunity to stay active, have fun and connect with new people, all while enjoying the excitement of the game.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to start sitting volleyball?
Go for it, embrace the challenge, listen to your coaches, and most importantly, have fun!
