International referees’ spotlight – Dominik Biegajlo
How did you get into refereeing? When did you become an international referee?
When I was in school, I was part of my school team as a setter. But when I realised I had the opportunities to become a national / international referee, I went for a seven-day referee course in Poland. I then became international referee after the London Olympics, in 2013.
What is your favourite thing about refereeing?
I love the great atmosphere you get around volleyball matches, the long rallies they produce and the fact you get chance to meet so many new people.
What advice would you give to someone starting out as a referee?
Be fair and consistent and feel the art of being a referee.
What has been your biggest achievement as a referee/official?
I was a line judge in the London 2012 Olympics, which was a big honour. As referee, it would be taking charge of a big quarter-final match in Greece.
