Progressing further (Volleyball)
Progression to the next grade is based on meeting the relevant competency standards and providing the required evidence. A Referee Review is one part of this process, helping to demonstrate a referee's practical performance and readiness for advancement alongside other development, learning and activity requirements.
A Referee Review can take place in one of the following ways:
Reviews at Designated Events
These reviews take place at competitions that have been designated by Volleyball England as Referee Review Opportunities. Referee Developers are appointed to these events to evaluate referees seeking progression opportunities.
Reviews at Competitive Matches
Reviews at Competitive Matches take place during a 6v6 match officiated by the referee being reviewed, alongside an accredited Volleyball England Referee Developer.
Please note: Referee Reviews are available only to currently registered Volleyball England referees.
How to get observered
Reviews at Designated Events
Volleyball England organises national competitions which require a cohort of referees. To formally request a review at an event, you can register for the observation opportunity on VolleyZone by clicking here and filtering by observation opportunity.
The calendar of events where reviews take place can be found by clicking here.
If you are appointed you will recieve an assignment through VolleyZone which you must accept to confirm your Referee Review. Closer to the time of the event, you will recieve further information from the Competition Organiser about the event logistics.
You will be able to claim a referee fee (applicable to the event) and travel expenses. The Volleyball England expenses claim form can be downloaded by clicking here.
Reviews at Competitive Matches
When you are appointed to referee a match with a Referee Developer you can ask them if they would be willing to evaluate you. Ideally, it would be good to contact them before the match to ask but this is not always possible.
