U15 Tier 2 matches get 2023-24 Junior Grand Prix Series underway

The Junior Grand Prix series got up and running over the weekend with a host of matches in Tier 2 for both girls and boys.

The development level competition ensured a host of teams were able to enjoy their volleyball without having to travel too far to compete.

Girls

South Hants led the way in four-team Pool A ahead of three Wessex sides (A, B and C), winning all three matches after clinching a 2-1 victory in the key match against second-placed Wessex A.

Ashfield Vipers A headed up a six-strong Pool C in dropping just one set on their way to five straight victories.

Behind them, the teams were evenly-matched, with three teams, West Riding A, Wakefield Girls High A and Ashfield Vipers B all winning three and losing two of their matches.

Pool D was led by Stourbridge Diamonds, who scored an impressive 250 points in their five victories, with Tettenhall Tigers A and Wombourne B both winning two, drawing two and losing one.

Newcastle Staffs C were unbeaten in Pool E to top it ahead of their own B team, who recorded three victories along with Wirral.

In Pool F, ENVC Robins A came out on top with three victories out of three, as MK City Enigma finishing as runners-up with two wins.

Boys

A tight Pool A saw Dunottar Warriors edge out Ashcombe A and Harvey Grammar to finish top on points difference after sets difference could not completely separate them.

All three sides claimed two wins and suffered one defeat in their three matches.

There was no such doubts about the result in Pool C, where Wessex A won all three of their matches, including a decisive victory over second-placed South Hants.

No dominant team emerged in a six-strong Pool D, but Stourbridge Sparks topped the table with three wins and a draw ahead of Cardiff Celts, who registered two victories and two draws.

Pool E was also keenly-contested, with Cambridge and MK City A both suffering one loss to go with their two successes, only for the former to finish with a superior set difference.

This weekend, the Junior Grand Prix series turns its attention to the U18 competition, with action for girls and boys at both Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.

Tier 1 will see the preliminary round take place, which will decide who teams will face during the Grand Prix themselves, with sides matched up based on their performances over the weekend.

Tier 2 teams, meanwhile, will play their first Grand Prix against other clubs in their geographical region.
