For the month of September, two beach volleyball courts are available to be used by the public. The courts in Canada Square Park in Canary Wharf are the award-winning charity courts that AFK have been springing up all over London since 2009.
The courts have enabled the charity to raise over £600,000 to fund services, providing equipment, education and employment for children and young people with disabilities and autism.
AFK said - ‘As a smaller charity we are proud to be able to deliver a unique event in such a distinctive location, but we couldn’t do it without the support of Canary Wharf Management Ltd., our incredible sponsors and participants who come back year after year as well as the teams from SideOut Beach Volleyball Club who help with the drop in sessions and tournaments happening at the courts.’
The courts will be open to all, offering pay-to-play sessions for enthusiasts to hone their beach volleyball skills in the sand or challenge friends and colleagues to friendly lunchtime competitions. This year marks the highly anticipated return of the Beach Volleyball Championships, where teams across Canary Wharf will compete for the prestigious title of AFK Beach Champion.
SideOut director, Alex Chevau, exclaimed, "Bringing beach volleyball to Canary Wharf is amazing – it’s always good to see everyone so excited about the sport and out in the sun and on the sand, in the city."
Javier and Joaquin Bello headed down to the courts on Tuesday to show their support for the events saying how great of a location it is for two beach courts.
On the 16th of September, there will be the ‘Sideout Elite Invitational Tournament’ where people are invited to come and watch for free. The event is taking place between 10 am-6 pm.
During the three-week event, various business-to-business tournaments will take place, offering healthy competition and networking opportunities.
