The Game Plan - quarter one updates (from April to June 2023)

Details of achievements in relation to Volleyball England's strategic plan.

GET. KEEP. GROW 

Connected and stronger regions, counties, clubs and stakeholders 

  • The Annual Awards 2022-23 were staged at the Cup Finals Weekend, with the highest number of nominations ever (177). 
  • The second Regions and Counties Community of Practice has taken place, with 14 representatives joining the online session about officiating and The People Plan.  
  • A partnership with Sport England’s Club Matters is underway to support clubs, regions, and counties with a toolkit of resources. 

Enhanced Membership and Servicing 

  • VolleyZone has been launched with club affiliations, competition entries (NVL and Junior), courses and individual membership available to purchase. 
  • The Get. Keep. Grow. Sub-Group, in collaboration with the Hub team, undertook a detailed assessment of the 2023-24 membership fees and made a recommendation to the board. 

 

VOLLEYBALL FOR LIFE 

Building a diverse, inclusive and engaged volleyball workforce: 

  • The Big Conversation engagement phase of The People Plan was launched at the Cup Finals and closes on 31st July. Two face-to-face workshops have been staged in Loughborough and Cobham, receiving more than 400 pieces of feedback from the volleyball community that will feed into the overall strategic plan. 
  • The Coach Award, which replaces the Ist4 Sport Level 2, has been re-written and launchedA total of 32 learners enrolled on the pilot Indoor Course in April, with six learners starting the Junior Course in May.  A further 32 learners have registered for September 2023. The Beach and Sitting courses are in development. 
  • The Officials Transformation Project is making good progress.  

Supporting players to realise their potential across all formats: 

  • The Beach Selection policies were developed in time for the 2023 season. 
  • The eight Beach Volleyball Development Centres have been identified. 

 

AN ACE SERVICE 

High quality domestic and international events: 

  • Volleyball England worked alongside the BVF to deliver the ParaVolley Silver League. 
  • Physical attendance at Cup Finals Weekend grew by 28%, while streaming viewers were up by 25%. 
  • Volleyball England chose not to host at the NEVZA Under Age Beach Championships due to difficulty in finding accommodation and officials at short notice at the venue.  

An enhanced competition framework: 

  • Entries for the 2023-24 NVL season are up by 12% (up from 143 to 160 clubs). 
  • National Junior competitions have grown from 36 to 52 for the new 2023-24 season.  
  • The Hudl performance analysis system has been introduced to make the Super League more visually and commercially attractive. 

An enhanced infrastructure:

  • The B2022 Legacy Courts at Birmingham Moseley Rugby have now been completed. 

 

A RESPECTED AND VALUED NGB 

  • A new safeguarding platform, Globocol, is now up and running, enabling better reporting and management of incidents. 
  • A draft Adult Safeguarding Policy has been drafted and is now out for consultation. 
  • VolleyZone was launched at the end of June. 
  • The new VolleyStore was launched in mid-June. 
  • The Sport England end-of-year review was successfully completed. 
  • The Annual Report 2022-23 has been published.
