U15 Junior Grand Prix Tier 2 Review (1st and 2nd November)

The first round of the U14 and U15 Tier 2 Junior Grand Prix kicked off this weekend with some excitin and entertaining matches. 

Matches in this round and those at the end of November are being played as a 4v4 games, where the emphasis in on participation and enjoyment.

The teams that wish to can then play competitive 6v6 matches in the New Year and clubs interested can now register on VolleyZone.

Numbers are capped at 32 teams, with entries filling up fast, and the final closing date is 1st December if positions are not filled by then.

At the weekend, Girls' U15, Pool A was dominated by South Hants A, closely followed by Wessex in 2nd place. 

Their second team, South Hants B, finished fourth in the pool after beating VBDC, but narrowly missing out on a podium place to Winchester Eagles

Pool B was hosted by Newcastle Staffs, which featured timed games to accomodate for all the teams. 

Newcastle Staffs A finished in first place after winning their games 2-0, and they beat Ashfield Vipers A in their final tie by virtue of scoring more points after a 1-1 draw in sets. 

Newcastle Staffs B were third after beating clubmates Newcastle Staffs C 2-0. 

Wapping Wildcats hosted Pool C, with Wapping Wildcats A placing top of the table after convincing 3-0 victories in all their matches. 

Three teams including Wapping Wildcats B, London Giants and Greenhouse Sports all claimed four pool points after close 2-1 games, while Wapping Wildcats C were in fifth.

Pool D saw ENVC A lead the way, with Welwyn and Hatfield A finishing second. 

Hosts ENVC performed well as a club, with their B team claiming third behind Welwyn and Hatfield A, while Welwyn and Hatfield B were fourth and ENVC C fifth. 

Pool E saw AST Academy A finishing top of the pile with 10 points, with hosts The Boswells School A runners up. 

AST Academy B were third, while the close and unpredictable games resulted in The Boswellls School B, C and D teams all securing two points.


For the Boys' U15, Pool A was filled with 10 teams, which was ran on timed three-set games and split into two groups of five teams. 

Group finishing place would then dictate who teams met next, playing the same-ranked teams in the other pool.

Richmond B competing against South Hants A for overall top spot, and it was the south coast club who triumphed 2-0. 

The overall standings of Pool A were varied, with Richmond B overtaking their A team, with their C and D teams placing eighth and 10th. 

Winchester Eagles Junior

Wessex entered two teams into Pool A, with their A team placing sixth, and their B team placing ninth. 

Newcastle Staffs hosted Pool B, with their A team cthriving into a familiar environment, placing first, while their B team followed in second. 

Newcastle Staffs C had bigger competition, with Ashfield Vipers A and B team providing tboth fihting hard to finish fifth and third

Pool C was hosted by London Giants, whose A team were defeated by all teams, including London Giants B.

Wapping Wildcats were a formidable force, clinching top spot, with London Giants B second and Welwyn and Hatfield third. 

Lastly, Pool D was a battle between The Boswells School who entered four teams, and AST Academy, with two teams. 

This pool featured timed games for only one set, with all teams providing thrilling entertainment. 

After very close games, including a 31-30 between The Boswells School C and AST Academy B for third and fourth place, AST Academy A were victorious, claiming 10 points for their team, with The Boswells School A and C ending second and third respectively.
