Join volleyball clubs in celebrating 60 years of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre

Crystal Palace National Sports Centre will mark its 60th anniversary in style this weekend – and its two resident volleyball clubs will be a big part of the celebrations.

Located in the heart of south London, the venue has a rich history and has hosted multiple world firsts and record-breaking achievements.

To commemorate this latest, significant milestone, there will be a celebratory event across the weekend (13th and 14th July) that will include the opening of the newly-refurbished indoor and outdoor athletics tracks, as well as a host of other sporting sessions.

Among them will be those put on by Little Giants – the junior and youth indoor section of London Giants – and Deep Dish Beach, Crystal Palace.

Little Giants is running ‘Give it a Go’ volleyball sessions for adults, U18 and U13 players on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

So far, about 70 people have signed up for the activities, but there is still the chance for anyone to join in, with free tickets available by clicking here.

“As the only public multi-court venue in South London, Crystal Palace has played a huge role in the development of our youth groups since the start of our club in 2016,” said Little Giants’ Çisel Ormanci.

“It has helped us reach out to a wider community, providing indoor volleyball not only for youth but also for various hard-to-reach groups such as church and mosque groups. We’ve hosted many competitions at this iconic venue and continue to do so.”

Deep Dish, meanwhile, has a busy schedule of events on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, there will be open play from 11am to 12noon for everyone and anyone to come along and try beach volleyball.

From 12noon to 3pm and then 3pm to 6pm, the club will then be holding two club socials - All You Can Beachbefore a pop in and play tournament will be hosted between 6pm and 8pm. You can sign up by clicking here.

On Sunday, the club is running a King/Queen of the Beach tournament and there is still space left for players to sign up by clicking here.

“Deep Dish has been part of Crystal Palace NSC for over 10 years now and we are extremely excited to celebrate CPNSC turning 60,” said Deep Dish Beach’s Mark Gracia-Kidd.

“During that time, we have grown from an adult club to multiple beach sports venues and established a wonderful community with school and local partners to use beach volleyball as a way to bring people together.

“We couldn't do what we do without Better and Crystal Palace's support, and we look forward to celebrating the birthday party with everyone in the community!”
