Teenage player Maxime champions resilience and mental health in video

A teenage volleyball player has featured in a promotional video that advocates how getting involved in sport can change lives.

Maxime Carolan talks about the importance of playing to his ongoing mental health, as well as how returning from injury has helped develop his resilience. 

The 16-year-old, who plays for The Boswells School and NVL side Dartford and has also represented England at Cadet level features in a production by Cascades Gym and Gravesend Council. 

He explains what motivates him, how he trains and how it has sparked an improvement academically, in addition to his progress on court. 

Maxime is now on the Junior Talent Pathway and looking forward to playing beach volleyball on the sand this summer before turning his attentions to trying to get in the national team to play in the indoor NEVZA tournament for his age group this autumn. 

Mum, Sophie Henry, said: “Max he dedicates a lot of time promoting how volleyball has changed his life and how important the practice of sports is to mental health. 

“He has also overcome a big injury and wants to encourage athletes to fight their way back if they suffer a setback.”
