Progression to the next grade is based on meeting the relevant competency standards and providing the required evidence. A Referee Review is one part of this process, helping to demonstrate a referee's practical performance and readiness for advancement alongisde other development, learning and activity requirements. 

There are two types of review:

Reviews at Designated Events

These reviews take place at competitions that have been designated by Volleyball England as Referee Review Opportunities. Referee Developers are appointed to these events to evaluate referees seeking progression. 

Reviews at Competitive Matches

Reviews at competitive matches take place during a match officiated by the referee being reviewed, with an accredited Volleyball England Referee Developer present to review and evaluate performance (see below for further information about Referee Developers). 

Please note: Referee Reviews are only available to currently registered Volleyball England referees.

Reviews at Designated Events

Volleyball England's delivery partner, the UK Beach Tour organises a series of national beach volleyball competitions each year that require qualified referees. Volleyball England also stages international events, such as NEVZA Championships, Zonal Association events and Beach Pro Tour tournaments which provide additional officiating opportunities. 

To formally request a review at a designated event, you can register for the observation opportunity on VolleyZone by clicking here and filtering by observation opportunity. 

The calendar of events where reviews take place can be found by clicking here. These opportunities will be added at the start of the beach volleyball season each year. 

If you are appointed you will recieve an assignment through VolleyZone which you must accept to confirm your Referee Review. Closer to the time of the event, you will recieve further information from the Competition Organiser about the event logistics. 

The UKBT Terms and Conditions for Beach Volleyball Referees can be viewed here. You will be able to claim a referee fee (applicable to the event) and travel expenses (applicable to the event) as an appointed referee.

Reviews at Competitive Matches

When you referee a match with a Referee Developer you can ask them if they would be willing to review you. Ideally, it would be good to contact them before the match to ask but this is not always possible.
