Join us in September for the 2023 Referees' Conference

Join us in September for the 2023 Referees' Conference

Volleyball England would like to invite referees at all levels to attend the 2023 Volleyball England Referee Conference.

It will be held on Saturday 16th September online from 10am to 4pm and sees the welcome return of the event for the first time since the Covid Pandemic

The day will feature a guest speaker as well as a number of workshops relating to specific refereeing topics.

There will also be a rules update from Nick Heckford of the Volleyball England Officials’ Working Group and a VolleyZone drop-in clinic.

The Conference will provide an excellent opportunity to network with fellow referees of all levels and exchange best practice.

For those unable to join the event in person, there will also be the opportunity to attend virtually.
Lunch will be provided for those who attend in person.

The schedule of speakers will be announced in due course.

Cost is £10 for virtual members and £20 for virtual non-members. Please are being taken by VolleyZone and note that all bookings are subject to an additional service fee of 3.2% + 50p.

The 2023-24 Referees' Conference - an optional development opportunity

The aim

The aim of the 2023-24 Referees' Conference is to provide an annual opportunity for officials at all levels to come together to learn about new developments, to build their understanding of current issues, to help inform the officials pathway and to be inspired ahead of the forthcoming season.

It is an optional development opportunity, with the annual update remaining separate and not part of the running order.

Why is Volleyball England doing this?

The new style of Conference is a first step along the journey of encouraging officials to come together more regularly to share knowledge and experiences, build skills, help inform the pathway and network with fellow referees from around the country.

It has been designed to have multiple access points - those who can’t travel that still want to take part can do so in a live workshop via Teams. For those that can't make the date, recordings of the online sessions will be posted on the web later in the Autumn.

The cost of the Conference and value for money

The cost of the Conference is being subsidised by 50%. As not all officials will be attending, those coming are being asked to cover the costs of the keynote speaker and the officials that are delivering the sessions, lunch and refreshments, in the same way the teams and players cover officials' travel and match fees when attending their games.

Those online will get approximately five hours of content for £2 per hour and those at the Conference at £5 per hour, with a lunch also included.

The annual update is not part of the Conference

The 2023-24 NVL Rules and Regulation update is being prepared by the Officials Working Group and will be shared online separately, in early August, to allow NVL officials to prepare for the season.
