Alice Jagielska recounts her experience at Team England Futures event in Glasgow

As promising talented athletes, they were able to get a behind-the-scenes look into how multi-sport Games operate, with the view of aiding preparations for future major events such as the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

The programme started ahead of the 2022 Commonwealths and, after a successful trial, was repeated during Glasgow.

Alice and Lewis travelled up to Scotland to stay between 26th and 29th July, where they got the chance to meet mentors, ambassadors and fellow athletes from a variety of different sports.

The programme also provides preparation and insight into the mentality needed to perform at the top level as well as expectations of athletes competing at multi event Games.

“The experience was incredible from start to finish,” said Alice. “When we arrived, we were welcomed by the team and given our kit.

“The following morning, we met all the athletes from the Futures Programme, and it was fascinating to learn about the different sports they compete in and hear about their experiences.

“We were then split into groups and took part in a series of workshops before watching several sports in action, including gymnastics.

“Seeing the athletes perform at such a high level was really exciting and inspiring.”

Alice and Lewis were able to widen their sporting experience and experience the requirements it takes to perform in the top flight of sport.

This opportunity should aid them to compete in high level international competitions such as the Beach Pro Tour and Queen / King of the Court.
