Riga's Chetham selected to attend CEV Coaching Convention

Coventry and Warwick Riga coach Jon Chetham has been chosen to represent Volleyball England at this year’s CEV Coaching Convention in Portugal.

The FIVB Level 2 and Volleyball England Level 3 coach has more than 30 years of experience as a qualified coach, leading programmes and teams from 10-year-old beginners to Super League level.

He has also been a Junior Development Officer for the West Midlands Volleyball Association for several years.

Jon will travel to Viana do Castelo for the seventh edition of the prestigious convention, which will take place from 12th to 14th June 2026.

It will bring together over 100 coaches and PE teachers from various European federations to explore essential topics related to introducing volleyball to entry-level children.

“I am always learning, adapting and evolving how I introduce volleyball to young children, so I will be keen to absorb all the information and ideas presented,” said Jon.

“My current coaching focus is on juniors and schools and with Riga – we see 50 10 to 15-year-olds per week, with new intakes each school term.

“We pride ourselves on never turning children away no matter what their ability is - our aim is to give them a sport for life, whatever the level and I facilitate monthly 4v4 tournaments for beginners aged in the Warwickshire area, as well as regularly coach in schools.”

Previous attendees from England include Timothy Clifford and Ben Fairweather (North Macdeonia, 2022), Elaine Brown and Darren Lewis (Bulgaria 2023), Jane Ashbrook and Dave Gunter (Bulgaria, 2024) and Stephanie Coroi and Nick Sampson (Croatia, 2025).
