Beach officials secure new qualifications at Welsh tournament

Sam Field, Paul Whittle and Michael Avery have qualified as Beach Volleyball Referee Developers, which will allow them to review and analyse referees’ performances on an ongoing basis. 

They will be able to support referees to improve using evidence-based analysis and by giving constructive feedback and by promoting continuous learning. 

The trio will also help create an environment where referees become self-aware of their performance.

Domitilla Di Stefano, Stephen Williamson, Olga Didarally and Hiroko Turner, meanwhile, also travelled to Wales to complete the practical element of the Grade 4 Beach Referee Course. 

They had already completed the self-study, online classroom and exam sections prior to their trip across the border. 

The practical evaluation saw the referees get a chance to practice in the first and second official roles, as well as complete a score sheet, and they were given feedback by the Beach Volleyball Referee Developers.
