England to host Youth and Senior NEVZA Beach events in 2025

This year, 36 teams (19 girls, 17 boys) from seven nations across two age groups (U18 and U20) contested the NEVZA Youth Beach Championships on Belvedere (South) Beach from Tuesday 25th to Thursday 27th June.   

Now there will be an additional open age group tournament for men and women - called NEVZA Beach England 2025 - taking the total number of competitions across next year’s eight-day event to six. 

The confirmed dates for the Championships are Friday 27th June to Friday 4th July 2025. 

The Senior competitions will run first, from Friday 27th June until Monday 30th June, while the Youth section will be staged from Monday 30th June until Friday 4th July. 

There will be a maximum of 16 teams in total permitted to enter in each format. 

“With this summer’s NEVZA event being so well received by member nations, we’re delighted to be given the honour of hosting an even bigger Championships, including Seniors in 2025,” said Rob Payne, Volleyball England’s Strategic Manager for An Ace Service. 

“Having players of contrasting ages involved across the full week will add an extra dimension to the tournament and will help to showcase beach volleyball at its best to the people of Yorkshire and beyond.” 

The expansion of the event in Yorkshire follows a successful staging of the NEVZA Youth Beach Championships 2024, where all matches were live streamed on the Volleyball England YouTube Channel. 

Prior to that, England had last hosted a NEVZA event in 2018 when the NEVZA U17 and U19 Championships (indoor) were contested at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.  

It will once again be hosted in partnership with Skyball Beach Volleyball Club and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, whose input helped ensure the first edition of the event ran smoothly. 

Pete Makowski, co-founder of Skyball and Lead Coach at The Gorse Academies Trust, said: “'This is amazing news for the beach volleyball community and provides extraordinary opportunities for local Leeds Gorse and Skyball Beach Volleyball Development Centre athletes to represent England on their home soil at the sands of Bridlington. 

“We are looking forward to supporting the event by providing expertise, volunteer base, staff and logistical resources.” 

The CEV has adjusted the format of qualification for the European Youth Championships 2025 whereby the zonal associations will provide qualification slots for the event, with two slots for each of  the four competitions up for grabs.

Further details on the Championships will be announced in due course, while NEVZA nations – Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Greenland and England – will now be requested to submit entries.
