Bello brothers heading to December's Beach Pro Tour Finals

Bello brothers heading to December's Beach Pro Tour Finals

England’s beach volleyball pairing of Javier and Joaquin Bello have been handed a wildcard for the season finalé – the prestigious Beach Pro Tour Finals in Doha.

The event will take place in the capital of Qatar between 4th and 7th December, with the London-based pair being placed in Pool B.

The event brings together the eight teams who have accrued the most qualifying points during the course of the year, with the other two teams being invited by event organisers.

Originally, those two extra places went to George and Andre of Brazil and Perusic and Schewiner of Czechia.

However, the withdrawal of the latter has opened the door for the Bello twins, whose selection, no doubt, owed much to their sensational triumph in the final BPT Elite 16 event in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month.

"We are really excited to have another opportunity to compete with the best teams in the world," said Javier.

"It will be the final highlight of this Beach Pro Tour season and a chance to consolidate ourselves at the top level.

"We hope to arrive directly from the Challenge event in the Philippines and give our best performance."

In Doha, the brothers will come up against the world’s very best, including those who made up the podium places in this summer’s Olympics – David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig (Sweden, gold), Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler (Germany, silver) and Anders Mol and Christian Sorum (Norway, bronze).

The prize money for the winners is $150,000, with the runners-up receiving $80,000.
