Vishnubala to take up CEV Medical Commission role

Vishnubala to take up CEV Medical Commission role

Volleyball England’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Dane Vishnubala has been elected as a member of the CEV Medical Commission.

Vishnubala – who leads on all aspects of clinical governance for the governing body and is helping establish a Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) network – found out his application had been successful last month.

He will have regular meeting with other medical experts from across Europe at regular intervals – both in-person and online – though it has yet to be confirmed when his first session will be.

“I think our collective role on the commission will be to set the standards from a medical perspective and influence federations and organisations to do the very best that they can to look after their players.

“We will be both proactive and reactive, providing guidance, recommendations and resources to those involved.”

Vishnubala, whose time in post will last for four years, believes the role will have positive ramifications for Volleyball England, both from a medical point of view, but also in strengthening relationships with other CEV countries.

He added: “I believe I am the first person from Volleyball England to hold one of these roles, so it will be really helpful for us to have a seat at the table.

“We will be able to know European priorities and the direction of travel from a medical point of view, and we will be able to have an influence too.

“We have an excellent Sport and Exercise community in the UK with a lot of knowledge and we will be able to impart some of that, as well as take away other learnings.

“Other European countries will certainly have plenty to offer when it comes to SEM relating to volleyball players that we can learn from in the UK.”
