English coaches learn at CEV Coaches’ Convention 2024

Jane Ashbrook and Dave Gunter were the representatives of Volleyball England’s clubs who travelled to CEV Coaches’ Convention in Sofia, Bulgaria on the weekend of 14th and 15th September.

The fifth edition of the annual event drew more than 150 participants from across Europe.

It featured three experienced speakers in Professor Ranko Rajovic, Atsushi Katoh and Kare Mol, who gave a wider perspective on key topics that volleyball coaches have on their agendas.

The two-day event also featured workshops where attendees solved real volleyball challenges, based on the new knowledge they had gained on the day before in both the theoretical and practical sessions.

Along with Morten Logagen from Denmark, Jane won the social media contest, organised by the CEV, taking home a a Mikasa mini volleyball as her prize

It was a fantastic opportunity to network with junior coaches from around Europe,” said Jane, from Frodsham Volleyball Club. We had some great sessions, both in terms of lectures and practical sessions from the conference presenters.

“There were lots of take-home messages and things to put into practice straight away, as well as things we are doing already.”

Dave, from Wessex Volleyball Club, added: “For me, the convention was a great opportunity to hear from the expert speakers, in particular the 'brain training' presentations of Dr Ranko Rajovic and Rok Tomazic, which certainly got me thinking how I could incorporate more 'brain' work into my sessions.

The highlight was listening to and seeing Kare Mol, of Beach Volley Vikings fame, in action. He had a high number of valuable ideas and suggestions.

It was also great to meet coaches from across Europe and discuss different coaching approaches, challenges faced, and how they overcame them.

Thank you to Volleyball England for giving us the opportunity to attend, a very rewarding and worthwhile experience.
