Richmond's Digs for Kids gives Teenage Cancer Trust a Christmas boost

Richmond Volleyball Club has raised almost £2,000 – and counting – from its annual Christmas charity fundraiser Digs for Kids.

Now in its fourth year, the campaign has grown each time, engaging with more and more of the club’s teams.

The idea is simple... in their final training session of the year, players dig the ball up into the air repeatedly while a parent or club volunteer counts them.

The number of digs is collectively added up from all the players in the session and then across all the participating sessions to come up with an overall figure, with players tasked with raising sponsorship for their efforts.

This year a total of 125,580 Digs for Kids was recorded, smashing the previous record of 104,628 from last year and beating the target of 110,000 by a huge margin.

A total of £1,845 has been raised so far as a result – with people still able to donate via the Just Giving Page by clicking here – and means almost £6,000 has been raised since 2019.

Proceeds from the campaign go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, reflecting the club’s commitment to developing young people.

“It has been fantastic to see the progression from the first year, raising £500, to now raising almost four times that amount,” said Andy Hopper, Richmond’s Club Chair.

“It started off with only players from the girls’ teams who did it, but as time has gone on, more and more of the boys have got involved. It’s great to be able to give back in this way.

“We’d like to say thank you to the players, coaches and parents for all their efforts and thank everyone for their generous donations, which will go directly to help teenagers with cancer.”
