Sitting Volleyball showcased at LimbPower Games 2023
Held at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury the annual event gives adults with a limb impairment the chance to try out a range of new sports an activities.
It is the largest gathering of amputees and people with limb difference in England and is designed to support people's rehabilitation journey in a safe, friendly and social environment among their peers.
Sitting Volleyball featured alongside the likes of athletics, archery, badminton, climbing, cycling, cricket, dance, football, tennis, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball and yoga.
Equipment for the sessions was provided by Volleyball England, while the British Volleyball Federation also lent it support.
“Sitting Volleyball is an excellent sport to showcase as it's truly inclusive, allowing disabled and non-disabled people to play together, so families and friends can enjoy a sport that does not favour any player,” said Ben Richards, from the Lincoln Sitting Volleyball Club, who delivered the sitting volleyball sessions alongside fellow volunteer Tom Middleton.
“To help people get the most from the sessions, we ran a number of different activities starting with balloons, then beach balls, then into a game with soft touch volleyballs.
“The interest this year was fantastic. LimbPower did an amazing job hosting the event and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
A LimbPower Junior games event is being staged this weekend, giving more potential players an insight into the sport. Click here for more details.
