Tribute to Charlie Duff

Tribute to Charlie Duff

Volleyball England has been saddened to learn of the passing of popular volleyball referee and keen sitting player Charlie Duff.

Charlie played for Portsmouth Sitting Volleyball Club - which later became South Hants – and served as its secretary, prior to moving to the Isle of Wight.

“Charlie was there from the start when Portsmouth was founded and always had a positive and cheerful outlook despite the challenges life threw at him,” said current South Hants Head Coach Richard Osborne.

“He was a double amputee, but that never stopped him from pursuing his passions, which speaks volumes about his character. He will be sorely missed.”

Charlie was a Volleyball England referee for almost 15 years, refereeing both indoor volleyball, including the NVL and also sitting matches.

Volleyball England's Officials' Working Group Lead, Nick Heckford said: “I have been very sad to learn that Charlie has passed away.

“He had to endure considerable health issues over his life, which he bore with a great sense of humour, and he never let it stop him doing his best to live life to the full.”

Volleyball England would like to send its heartfelt condolences to Charlie’s family and friends at this difficult time.
