An invitation to tell your volleyball story as part of Black History Month
As explained on the UK’s Black History Month website, stories in today’s world are powerful tools that shape how we all understand our past, present, and future.
“For too long, the history of Black communities has been told through lenses that often misrepresent, oversimplify, or entirely overlook the rich and diverse experiences of those who lived it,” it says.
“But 2024 is set to be a transformative year. Black History Month UK has unveiled its compelling theme: Reclaiming Narratives.
“This theme is not just about revisiting history; it’s about taking ownership of the stories that define our culture, our contributions, and our very identity. It’s a call to action for Black communities across the UK to step into the role of storytellers, historians, and custodians of our heritage.”
Volleyball England would love to hear from those in the volleyball communities around the country who are keen to shine a spotlight on the untold stories, the unsung heroes, and the everyday individuals from Black history who have made an indelible impact on volleyball.
It is an opportunity to contribute to a collective effort to reshape how Black history in the sport is perceived and taught, helping ensure that future generations grow up with a richer, more accurate understanding of Black history.
If you want your story to be told, please email communications@volleyballengland.org including your name, club if you have one and contact details in case of query.
Volleyball England will then publish a selection of contributions on its website before the end of the month. Please kindly note that the submission of content does not automatically guarantee publication.
