Research participation: Volleyball injury and prevention

Research participation: Volleyball injury and prevention

Players are invited to take part in a survey examining the nature and occurrence of injuries at national and regioanl levels for volleyball players in England during the 2022/23 season.

This research is being led by Louise Barlow at the University of Leeds as part of her MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine.

Participation in this research is optional but will help support the development of the sport and increase awareness of injuries within volleyball.

Who can participate?

Players over the age of 16 who competed at national or regional level during the 2022/23 season are invited to fill out the survey which will support injury prevention and identification in England.

Those who choose to participate will answer a range of questions which will take no longer than 15 minutes.

The responses collected will be used to analyse common trends and to produce a dissertation report. The findings will be shared with Volleyball England, the University of Leeds and may also be submitted for publication in a scientific journal.

All responses will be anonymous and individuals have the right to withdraw their submission.

Dr Dane Vishnubala, Volleyball England Chief Medical Officer is one of the research supervisors for the project and hopes the study will support policy changes and support clubs with injury prevention saying. “We are delighted to partner with the University of Leeds to explore a subject that would be valuable to the volleyball community and our athletes.

"This research project has been co- designed with us at Volleyball England and will help us understand the injuries that occur in volleyball in the UK and help us to understand the landscape and then use the information to design prevention strategies and ways to support athletes moving forward.”
