The Game Plan - quarter three updates (from January 2023 to April 2024)

The latest achievements in relation to Volleyball England's strategic plan.

GET. KEEP. GROW  

Connected and stronger regions, counties, clubs and stakeholders: 

  • The Annual Awards 2024 attracted 120 nominations across 11 categories, ahead of the ceremony in April.  
  • The Annual Club Survey was analysed, providing a wealth of insight to support the Get. Keep. Grow. team to better assist the club network.
  • Three online club workshops were held, focusing on funding, inclusivity and junior development, promoting best practice and encouraging discussion.
  • A Regions and Counties Community of Practice session was held, focusing on problem solving.
  • One-to-one club support offered to clubs who considered themselves to be ‘surviving’ in the Annual Club Survey.
  • The 2023-24 Higher Education Volleyball Officer (HEVO) programme reported a 25% increase in participants (4,803 so far) engaging in activity compared to last year. 
  • Have Your Say website page launched, encouraging members to give their views on current topics and consultations. Click here to view.

  • Annual Report 2024 to be issued (June). 
  • Annual Awards 2024 ceremony. 
  • Club reaffiliation for 2024-25.

VOLLEYBALL FOR LIFE  

Building a diverse, inclusive and engaged volleyball workforce: 

  • The People Plan consultation took place, inviting feedback on the five strategic themes and 14 guiding statements. 
  • Indoor and Beach Coach Award practical courses staged at the National Volleyball Centre (NVC) in Kettering.
  • Open recruitment for Assistant Coach Tutors.
  • Dates set for referee CPD for the 2024-25 season.
  • 30 Grade 4 referee courses run during the course of 2023-24, an increase of 25% on the previous 12 months, with 464 attendees.
  • Bello brothers Javier and Joaquin finished third in the FIVB Challenge event series in Recife, Brazil to move up to 30 in the world rankings.
  • England U18 Girls competed in the second qualifying round of the CEV European Championships 2024 in Spain.
  • Simon Loftus and Maria Bertelli reappointed as Head Coaches for the men’s and women’s England national senior teams.
  • Three Talent and Futures events were held at the National Volleyball Centre (NVC) in Kettering.
  • Three Junior coach workshops staged, featuring John Kessel, Louren Anderson as guest speakers on two of them.

What’s coming in Q1 (April, May and June)  

  • FIVB Refereeing Beach Seminar to be held at the UKBT Club Championships in June. 
  • New Learner Management System (LMS) in development. 
  • Planning and preparations underway for the UK Talent Coach Symposium that will take place in September. 
  • Chief Medical Officer Dane Vishnubala to attend the Talent Coaches monthly webinars. 
  • The second of four Talent Beach Camps to be held. 
  • U22 CEV Beach Championships 2024 staged in Izmir, Turkey (June).    

  

AN ACE SERVICE  

High quality domestic and international events: 

  • Last 8 of the U18, U16 and U15 Junior competitions staged at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering, all streamed on the Volleyball England YouTube Channel. 
  • Student Cup Final held at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, with Imperial College and University College London winning the men’s and women’s competitions respectively. 
  • New NVL five-year vision draft document published, with feedback invited from members on the proposals. 
  • Hub team and Competitions Working Group preparing for key end-of-season events.  

  What’s coming in Q1 (April, May and June)  

  • Cup Finals and Final 4 2024 at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering. 
  • NVL Play-offs at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre in Dorking. 
  • Consultation on rules and regulations changes. 

  

A RESPECTED AND VALUED NGB 

  • A volleyball-specific first aid pack made available on VolleyStore through a partnership with SteroSport. Click here for details. 
  • The UK Anti-doping (UKAD) Assurance Framework completed. 
  • Sport England annual reporting submitted.
