Sitting Grand Prix 1 Review

Nine teams competed across two tiers of non-stop action.
Tier 1
After finishing first in the Grand Prix rankings last year Sitting Bucks came to the first GP of the year with the intention of making it three years in a row – but did not start the season how they would have wanted.
Opponents Salisbury Spitfires edged a close first set 25-23 and then made it a straight sets win taking the second set 25-20.
This first match was always going to be closely-fought with Salisbury finishing second in last year’s GP series ranking.
At the same time as this intense game, last year’s silver medalists in the Final 4 - Help for Heroes A - were playing against South Hants.
The match was a nailbiter, with the first set going to a tie-breaker before finishing the way of South Hants 26-24.
If the first set wasn’t close enough, the second set went to another tiebreak!
Again, it was the South Coast club who snatched victory by the slender margin of 27-25.
Despite the loss in their first match, Help for Heroes A bounced back when they took on Lincon Imps, who finished last year’s GP in fourth place overall.
Help for Heros A were able to clinch the match (25-15, 25-9).
Tier 2
After finishing fifth in last year's rankings, Panthers faced Help for Heroes B for their first match. A close first set the trend of tight games with even tighter results.
Help for Heroes B eventually came out on top after coming from behind, winning the match 2-1 (24-26, 25-17, 15-9)
Nottingham Casualties made a return to the GP with their first game being against Telford Eagles.
The City club came fast out the blocks taking the first set 25-20, with Telford fighting back in the second set but just missing out on taking it to a final set/
After winning their first match against the Panthers, Help for Heroes B then faced the Nottingham Casualties, who were looking to make it back-to-back wins.
The skill of the two sides really shone, with the game going to three sets. Help for Heroes claimed the first set 26-24, only for Nottingham to strike back, taking the second and third set 25-18 and 15-9.
Nottingham Casualties will play in the first tier of the Grand Prix at the second meeting with Lincoln Imps dropping to the second tier.
The next Grand Prix is on the Sunday 22nd October, with entry still available. Get more information by clicking here.
