Record Breaking attendance for Women's Volleyball

England Women player Meg Viggars spoke on BBC Radio 5 Live about the recent record-breaking attendance at Memorial Stadium in Nebraska.

Viggars - who is part of the England women’s National team Spoke with Stacey Dooley about the match which took place on Wednesday the 30th of August.

Viggars also plays professionally in Greece for Paok as well as having experience playing out in Illinois when she was studying in the United States.

The Volleyball game had 92,003 people attend breaking the record for the highest attendance for a women's live sporting event.

‘It's incredible’ Viggars said. ‘Nebraska is a very big volleyball school selling out their games over 300 times in a row with an 8000-seat stadium. They wanted to push to see how many fans they could get in a stadium’.

Viggars had played in front of over 5,000 spectators in Illinois showing the popularity of the sport in the States.

Stacey Dooley asked why games don’t get the attendance or view the sport as popular over here in the UK. ‘That's a question I ask myself’ replied Meg. All over the world it is popular but doesn’t get enough exposure in England.

The interview can be listened to here starting at 22 minutes.
