15th September 2011

test event sandThe iconic, world famous Crystal Palace National Sports Centre was opened in 1964 and is a listed heritage building. Set within 200 acres of parkland, the facility provides a unique London venue steeped in sporting tradition.

The launch will take place this weekend (Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September) and will give people of all ages the opportunity to experience one of the Olympics most talked about and modern sports - beach volleyball!

There will be a host of coaches and players on site to provide training and advice including Luke and Jake Sheaf, 2011 Champions Race winners of the Volleyball England Beach Tour (VEBT) with two wins and two runners up places. The Go Spike come and try Beach Volleyball sessions will run from 10am - 3pm.

Lisa Wainwright, Chief Executive of Volleyball England said, "This is a fabulous opportunity for Londoners to come along to a local facility and give Beach Volleyball go, meet new friends, get healthier and maybe start a new sport for life.

Crystal Palace Beach Sports has been funded through a partnership between GLL and Volleyball England. The sand has been donated by the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) which has transformed a disused area of the facility at the front of the building.

Following on from the launch the area will be available for birthday parties and corporate barbeques and will host a number of drop in sessions and sand-based sports courses.

If you would like to book on to our coached volleyball sessions running from 10.00am - 3.00pm or even if you would just like to turn up and have a go please contact: Hannah Hetherington on 020 8768 8117 or email hannah.hetherington@gll.org.
