NEVZA U17 RESULT: fourth for the boys; girls finish sixth.
18th October 2017
England boys finished fourth at the NEVZA Under 17 Championships after defeat to Finland in the bronze medal match.
England started brightly with some sharp play and took the first set. The match then turned on the second set. England were dominating and looked set to make it 2-0, but lost a series of set points which allowed Finland to draw level. That gave Finland the momentum and although England battled hard, it was a case of what might have been as they couldn't produce their best volleyball at the business end of sets. They finished fourth overall and with some good individual performances there is plenty to build on for the future.
England’s girls finished in 6th place overall after a 3-1 defeat to Norway in their play-off match.
After losing the first set, the girls responded well with more accurate hitting to level at one set all. At times England played some excellent volleyball but couldn't keep up the momentum though and Norway secured the third set to 21 points. The Scandinavian team ran away with the fourth set and it was only some excellent serving from Georgia McGovern which made the scoreline look more competitive at 25-17.
