Obituary - Lyle Harmon-Beglan

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our good friend Lyle Harmon-Beglan passed away on 11th January at the age of 62. Lyle was Co-Director of the Weymouth Beach Classic, secretary of Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club and a Field Of Play attendant at London 2012 at Horse Guards Parade.

Lyle was a key organiser at the annual Weymouth Beach Volleyball Classic. In the very early days of the tournament Lyle helped rake the courts and could be seen at 06:00 knocking in heavy spikes on Saturday & Sunday mornings in the days when we put up and took down the nets each day.

In recent years as well as being event Co-Director Lyle very successfully looked after the qualifying event & the Men’s & Women's second division whilst at the same time helping with the main draws. His excellent organisational skills were always appreciated by players and officials alike.

His passion for volleyball could be seen all year round, he ran indoor volleyball sessions in Bridport schools and organised regular tournaments against other schools in the County. Lyle could then be seen every Tuesday evening in Weymouth running the local beach volleyball league.

In his younger days he was a very accomplished beach and indoor player. We will all miss his gentle kind nature and his superb organisational skills which were always on show at the Classic and at Weymouth Tuesday league. All our thoughts are with his wife Alison, and daughters Eilish and Siobhan.
