Women's GB Sitting Team in Action This Weekend
18th January 2017
The Great Britain Women’s Sitting Volleyball face a tough test this weekend as they head to Finland for the Pajulahti Games.
Having progressed throughout 2016, the squad are looking to continue their development as they take on some of the top teams in Europe. Although only taking a small squad of seven players, the team will have huge experience with over 275 caps between them, including three London 2012 Paralympians.
With five matches in three days, the tournament will be tough but captain Martine Wright says it is a vital step for the team as they begin another exciting year.
“We’re really looking forward to getting 2017 off to a great start. We faced a number of these teams at the same event last year, so it will be an opportunity for us to demonstrate how far we’ve come” she said. “Training has been going well so we feel confident that we can put in some strong performances together against some top teams."
“We play four teams inside the top eight in Europe, so we can really test ourselves and benchmark where we are.”
The team will be in action early on Friday when they take on Russia 1 at 7am and will then later face the Netherlands at 3pm.
They will then be back in action for two further matches on Saturday, when they meet hosts, Finland, at 9am followed by Russia 2 at 1pm.
Rounding off the weekend will be another early start when they take on Hungary at 7am on Sunday.
All times are GMT.
