East London Lynx Dominate Sitting GP4
11th December 2016
The 4th Sitting Grand Prix of the season took place today at the National Volleyball Centre with multiple displays of excellent volleyball. There were six teams competing in one pool, amongst these teams were last year’s reigning champions East London Lynx.
The day got off to an eventful start as East London Lynx came up against a strong Sheffield side with displays of excellent volleyball coming from both teams. East London Lynx managed to secure the first set 25-21 but everything was still to play for. Sheffield came out fighting in the second set and with a much more dominant display won the second set 25-22. With the game going to a final set East London Lynx found their rhythm and began to move the ball more intricately and with clinical finishing powered through the final set to win it 15-5 and the game 2-1. Despite an early loss to East London Lynx, Sheffield needed to re-group quickly as they took on Lincoln Imps. Things didn’t seem to be going to plan as they lost the first set 16-25, but soon into the second set they seemed to have put that first game loss behind them and found their rhythm as they went on to comfortably win the next 2 sets (25-19, 15-12).
South Hants got their day off to a great start with two comfortable 2-0 wins over Essex Pirates (25-10, 25-18) and Manchester Marvels (25-19, 25-22). Unfortunately, as the day progressed and they came up against the more dominant sides, they were unable to continue this winning streak with losses against East London Lynx (2-0, 8-25, 25-27) and Sheffield (2-0, 16-25, 25-27). However, despite these two losses they produced a final dominating performance to end the day on a high with a win over Lincoln Imps (2-0, 28-26, 25-22).
East London Lynx’s dominance carried on throughout the day as they defeated team after team. To finish the day in style East London Lynx completed once last dominating performance with a 2-0 (25-10, 25-9) win over Manchester Marvels. Sheffield placed 2nd with their only loss being to East London Lynx in the opening game of the day.
Steve Allen (Manchester Marvels) and Kaytee Beardsmore (Sheffield) both received 3 MVP nominations from today’s games.
