Challenge Series takes off

Volleyball England are delighted to announce the launch of the Volleyball England Challenge Series, which sees the England Junior National Teams (Men and Women) take on Super 8s Teams, hosted during National Squad training weekends at Kettering from October to April during the 2016-17 season.

The development of the Challenge Series provides invaluable opportunities for our talented athletes involved in the National Junior Men’s and Women’s squads to improve their performance in preparation for competition on the international stage. This invaluable support from Super 8 teams provides regular competitive matches throughout the season.

This weekend sees the first ever matches of the Challenge series, with the England Junior Men taking on London Docklands and the England Junior Women facing City of Salford on Saturday. Sunday’s fixtures see both the England Junior Men and Women facing Team Northumbria. The England Juniors will then fly to Denmark on Monday to take part in the NEVZA U19 championship

The Challenge Series page will provide ongoing information as well as fixture lists and league table based on points difference accrued when playing the England Junior teams.

Super 8s teams who have a Junior National Team player registered to their squad have first choice on selecting that player.

All matches will have match statistics recorded in order to provide the coaching teams with analysis of both individual and team performance in a competitive environment. This would replicate the NEVZA and CEV experience. This also provides a fantastic opportunity to develop a workforce of statisticians as well as providing referees at 3N level to gain match experience and professional development.

The England Juniors along with the Volleyball England talent team take on home club responsibilities in organising the matches and officials

The Challenge Series table is separate from the Super 8’s table as Challenge Series matches do not impact on the regular Super 8 season.

The Challenge Series table will use the same set points system as super 8’s, i.e. 2 pts for a win, 0 pts for a loss, 1 bonus point for winning by 2 sets or more, 1 bonus point for losing by 1 set or less. Plus points difference from their match against England Juniors
